Starting off my career as a formal landscape architect I never dreamt that I'd end up converting that background into my current trade as a goldsmith, focused on rapid prototyping, let alone incorporating it into my longstanding love affair with ceramics. Combine this with my passion for 2D & 3D, and essentially you end up with a gardener who was merely trying his hand at fine art in the controversial medium of ceramics. It consequently came as quite a surprise when my "Not made in China" piece, that I ventured to test the muddy waters with (so to speak), not only got accepted for the Ceramics Southern Africa Regional Exhibition but also attracted the affirmation I needed in the form of a 2009 New Signature Award. The concept behind that piece has since evolved into a full-scale project titled "Heritage Protection Unit", exploring the boundaries of heritage and cultural extinction.
