My name is Ann Paxton and I live in Springs on the East Rand. I started pottery as a hobby in 1977 first at Brakpan Tech College and then at Brakpan Pottery Studio for about three years. During this time I developed a studio at home and over the years exhibited with friends in various locations.
In 1994 I retired from work and started teaching from home, which continues to the present time. I work mainly in earthenware as I enjoy the brilliant colours available in today’s underglazes. Wheel work is my main preference, producing bowls and jugs in abundance. During classes I find myself making birds for hand work demos.
Occasionally a group of friends, also potters, will get together for a raku firing and a glass of wine!
I think my work has been influenced by the Ardmore Studio and recently Paul Young’s visit was inspirational.
I hope to work with clay until I drop as nothing beats the thrill of opening a kiln full of newly fired pots!
