I am an artist who is currently exploring clay as a medium.
In 2007 I started working at the Tshwane South College Ceramic Studio and was exited about the endless possibilities clay offers. Subsequently I expanded my studio space and bought a kiln.
In 2009 a ceramic tile panel was accepted at the Sasol New Signatures Art Competition. At the 2009 Glazecor Ceramics Southern Africa Gauteng Regional Exhibition, I received the New Signature Award.
The sculptures, tiles and panels I create often employ stereotypes conveying messages and stories regarding identity.
Initially I started making tiles to explore the process of surface decoration; I fell in love with this format. Historically and functionally tiles are used to cover surfaces and to me, it represents taste, class, culture, choice, history, personality and the availability of money. The art of tile decoration are utilized in a very personal way, this let me to explore a two-dimensional format, sculpturally, creating figurines.
