Desiree Malan
Desireé Malan, selftaught ceramic artist works from her studio in the Boland town of Wellington. She studied graphic design in the early 1980's but early in her studies she realised that advertising wasn't for her. Through the years she completed many short courses in painting, textile design and although working in commerce, she has always made time to be creative. About 7 years ago she discovered clay and immediately realised that she has a passion for this medium. She works from a fully equipped studio where she has experimented with different methods from slipcasting to raku firing. She is particularly interested in figurative ceramics and prefer handbuilding to wheelwork. Desireé is not scared to experiment and enjoys trying out new techniques from her vast selection of ceramic books which she has collected through the years. Her current work deals with
the female form.
