Elsbeth Burkhalter has been working with clay since 1977. She works in Stoneware and Porcelain and enjoys Raku and other alternative firing processes. In her work she deals primarily with the vessel as a metaphor to illustrate passages in history.
She holds a B-Tech degree in Ceramic Design from the University of Johannesburg and has exhibited widely in South Africa and internationally. One of her large sculptures was selected to represent Africa in an international sculpture exhibition in Switzerland.
Her awards include the Corobrick National Handwork Award. Her work is represented in South African Public Collections as well as Corporate and private collections in South Africa and overseas.
