Owner of Freakalee Ceramics. Her mission statement is to make the ordinary white object become extra-ordinary objects of desire.
Lee studied fine arts at Pretoria University and P E Technikon in the 1990’s. It was only five years ago, after the birth of her first child, that she decided to make ceramics her full-time career.
She was a finalist in the 2008 Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum Biennial Award and one of the exhibitors for the 2009 “5 artists 5 different directions” show held in Port Elizabeth.
2010 saw her returning to the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University to focus exclusively on exploring the definitions and possibilities of clay. She knew that, to be taken seriously as a Ceramic artist, she needed to return and re-acquaint herself with the physical challenges that clay presents and provide original and interesting canvasses for her unique painting abilities.
It was also the year that she won the Highly Commended award for her work at CSA Regional in the Eastern Cape.
2012 will see her focusing on having her 1st solo exhibition in Port Elizabeth.
