Marion de Jonge

In 2009 I started taking pottery classes in JHB, learned wheel throwing and slab work. This is for me relaxing and therapeutically. I got hooked and realized that this is “the hobby” I always searched for. We retired early, moved to Limpopo, Haenertsburg in 2011 where I opened my own studio and workshop after various courses with Paul de Jongh and workshops at the clay festival. Workshops overseas also inspired me to learn more and share my experience by giving classes. My products are all functional wheelwork, tiles, creative and decorative handwork and I combine my ceramics with mosaic work, water features, braais and pizza ovens and enjoy making sculptures. I have a wonderful set-up of electric kilns, raku oven and pit fire. The teamwork with my husband, a glass in lead artist, as well as the TV broadcast in the program “Mooiloop” made our country studio a tourist attraction in our small village. This working pottery studio is open daily and visitors are welcome to browse and even enjoy a hands-on class.
