Message from the National Chair.
Ceramics Southern Africa is the association representing artists and potters throughout the country in the ceramic industry. Our members range from professionals to part-time studio artists, hobbyists and students at tertiary institutions and private teaching studios.
It is encouraging that Ceramics SA has grown in so many ways during the past years. There are clear signs of a revitalisation in local activity, with many new faces appearing on the scene, and some of the older ones becoming more active . Our recognition locally and internationally as a serious and committed organisation devoted to ceramics has resulted in a constant interaction with other such associations and individuals. Over many years we have hosted international artists who have all gone away with a high regard for the standard of South African ceramics. The international acceptance of the work produced locally is evident in the growing numbers of exports of both individual pieces and series production.
The new website will, I am sure, position us firmly as a professional organisation in line with those in other parts of the world. I invite you to explore this site and enjoy the visual pleasures of our Corobrik collection, see where teaching studios are located, join our mailing list to be updated of events and if you are considering to become a
member and enjoy the benefits of this association, it is all available at the click of a button.
Vision:
To be the mouthpiece of South African ceramicists to
be heard worldwide.
To achieve our vision, the association strives to:
- create awareness of the aesthetic, artistic, cultural and utilitarian value of ceramics.
- provide professional and ethical management of its activities to increase the economic importance of the art and craft in South Africa.
- present regular workshops by experts, both local and international, in various related fields in the medium of clay, resulting in the free and enthusiastic exchange of skills and the advancement of expertise.
- promote the growth of local and international interactions to ensure awareness of the participation of Ceramics Southern Africa in the broader sphere of ceramics.
- host Exhibitions on Regional and National levels to showcase the work of the members to the public.
- create an awareness of the value of ceramics as a collectable form of art/craft.
- create platforms for the development of the art and craft as a vehicle for economic empowerment and value creation.
- elevate, promote and maintain the standard of South African Ceramics in general.
